These pages are part of a sim-game called Riata and all content is fictional Health Procedures
With a qualified Vet as the owner (and only a few years off in real life as well!), the horses of Terre D'Ange are guaranteed prompt and thorough health care. Terre D'Ange takes health very seriously, and we do everything in our power to ensure the horses are in the best physical and mental states possible
All Terre D'Ange horses are checked thoroughly twice a day. The first check occurs at the morning feeding time and the second when horses are brought in at night. Special attention is given to the eyes, nose, legs and reproductive organs, the latter especially in stallions and broodmares.
Terre D'Ange horses are wormed regularly using a rotational system of wormers to prevent resistance building up. There is a stringent management plan for paddocks to ensure that worms cannot build up. Paddocks are harrowed and spelled to break up any larvae and destroy it.
Terre D'Ange horses are also vaccinated yearly for tetanus and twice-yearly for strangles. Broodmares are also vaccinated against Equine Herpes Virus. Every horse that comes into the barn must pass a full veterinary examination, including tests for several diseases and a background check.
Hooves a trimmed every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the horse in question. All competing horses are shod front and back to prevent excessive hoof wear. Broodmares are shod if the need arises. Teeth are floated twice a year unless otherwise needed.
